Late night without a net
Jan. 8th, 2008 12:52 amY'know, I dare say that Conan might actually be a little bit funnier without the writers. He's just a funny guy, and watching him wing it and come up with off-the-wall ways to kill time without scripted bits, it's just funny. The other night, he sang and played the guitar. Tonight, he did a laser light show, then gave away random dumb crap from the NBC store downstairs. Conan's really funnier when he's just being Conan. :)
Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert, on the other hand ... they did alright tonight, but I think they'll both get boring quickly without all the good, scripted news parts. As it was, Colbert ate up almost the whole show with rather dull interviews. (Though I loved his opening -- "Tonight! _______. Then! ______. Plus! ______. Hey! ______. This is the ColberT Report.") I couldn't help but notice, though, that the few times he spoke his own name, yes, it was ColberT, hard T, coal-bert. Wonder if that's a trick to get around the issue of whether he can use Colbert the character during the strike?
