I went to see "Sweeney Todd" tonight with Deb and Eric. If you can stand bloody stuff, I highly recommend it (I'm talking like end-of-"Kill Bill 1" blood, spurting all over). You know a movie is good when you find yourself sucked in, emotionally attached, like "NOOO!" or "YES!" or "oh, no, that's terrible!" It was that kind of movie.
It was also just plain entertaining, with an interesting story and two awesome leads (Helena Bonham-Carter, aka Belatrix Lestrange from the Harry Potter movies among many other recent roles, and Johnny Depp, who I've never been a particular fan of before, but he was awesome here). And the singing was excellent as well -- Bonham-Carter we knew could sing (see also "Corpse Bride"), but Depp's a really good singer, too, which is doubly impressive when you consider that he's never really been a singer, never had any formal training.
The movie, as I said, was good. The company was also good -- I'm very lucky to have good friends and be able to spend time with some of them from time to time. It's nice to get out and have a life once in a while, remind myself that my life's pretty good, that I have good friends and a good job that pays me enough to be able to get out and have a good time once in a while.
