Fun English facts
Feb. 9th, 2005 12:05 amThe word "rhyme" only has an H because "rhythm" does.
Seriously, I was watching the tape so far from that English series on the History Channel, and that's what the guy said. When they were fixing some of the spellings for the language, that was their rationale -- "well, rhythm has an H, so let's give rhyme one, too." No wonder a lot of our spellings don't make any damned sense.
Speaking of spelling, I also learned that it was Noah Webster who gave us Americans the gift of slightly more logical, streamlined spelling -- he turned colour into color, travelling into traveling, theatre into theater and defence into defense. :)

Feb. 9th, 2005 02:58 amI'm kinda psyched now. Green Day tickets apparently go on pre-sale Friday.
Hope they don't cost like a billion dollars. They'll probably be pricey, but I'm hoping they're not astronomical. I'm totally gonna at least try to get a ticket. (I'd say "tickets," but I'm betting none of my local peeps will be able to/want to go, anyway. I don't mind going by myself, though, assuming I can get a ticket without emptying my bank account. And it's on a Monday, so it shouldn't be too absurdly hard for me to get the night off by then.)
(I know, aren't I feeling bloggy tonight, all these short entries. Sorry.)

I've got a new baby
Feb. 9th, 2005 09:27 pmI bit the bullet, pulled out the credit card and went to that culinary place in Saratoga today, where I bought my new baby:

Isn't she beautiful? She's a Henckels Four-Star 6" chef's knife. Okay, it was a little expensive, but hey, you pay for quality -- I'll have this baby forever. I'm pretty excited -- this is my first purchase of high-end cutlery. :)
