I need a kick in the ass. Totally.

I ended yesterday ahead on my word count.

Today, I've written something like 700 words. And now I'm just sorta sitting here as my characters play poker on the deck of a ferry.

Bleh.

I've owned Green Day's American Idiot for about a day now.

I know I haven't listened to it enough, and I'll probably be listening to it for a long time.

But I can say with a dollop of certainty that this might, just might, be the greatest album of our generation.

I knew I'd get around the writer's block eventually.

I was trying to write, but I was too busy being pissed off about the sheer volume of amazingly stupid people in this country who will believe any lie a guy in a suit throws at them without looking for any proof to back it up and who seem to think that if you point out how un-American it is to try to take away our rights and send Americans to die for a lie, for no good reason, then you're somehow un-American for daying to question authority. (If Bush wins, then the majority of Americans are certifiably stupid and deserve all of the damage he will continue to inflict on our country. Me, I'm thinking about how hard it would be to move to Canada.)

*ahem*

So basically, I was stuck on the whole novel thing. Then, I realized that hey, tangents add to the word count, and I might as well get some mileage out of my irritation. So as my characters sat on a ferry, I threw in a random, pissed-off American young guy, and now he's ranting about all of this bullshit. Way to get it out of my system while boosting the word count. Huzzah.

Thanks to the stupid people, who somehow, unbelievably, still trust Bush after all of his lies, all of the needlessly dead soldiers, all of his blatant twisting of the facts.
Thanks to the un-American people, those who don't believe in the Constitution, those who think it's okay to take away people's rights in the name of religion.
Thank you to the blind, ignorant assholes who would rather see America as a theocratic empire than as a great nation.
Thank you, all of you partisan, un-American morons who did their part to ensure four more years of decline, four more years of chipping away at our rights, four more years of senseless deaths and tyrannical, imperialistic rule.
I wonder how many rights we'll have left in four years? I wonder how badly the Constitution will have been shredded, stepped on and ignored? I wonder how many more soldiers will have to die for no good reason?

I'd like to issue a call to all rational Americans (or at least as many as this lands in front of).

Don't quit.

Yes, Bush has been working hard at taking away our right to choose what we do with our own bodies. Yes, he's trying to add anti-gay discrimination to the Constitution. Yes, he's sent thousands of Americans to die in a foreign equipment, with not enough resources to win a way that we actually had no reason to be fighting in the first place, all of this while the actual justified war gets ignored and Osama bin Laden gets away. Yes, he has no respect for the Constitution, the office of president or the American people.

I've heard many people talk about moving to Canada. Seems like a good idea, on the surface, since Canada is likely to be more like America than America by 2008.

But hang on.

Think for a moment about what being American means to you. Freedom. Justice. Equality. Life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. And soldiers who died to give you those rights -- no, not the ones in Iraq who are fighting for nothing, but our forefathers, the ones who staged an improbably Revolution and won, the ones who were willing to battle brother-against-brother for equality in the Civil War. Did their sacrifice mean nothing? Are you willing to give up what they fought to give us, quietly, without struggle?
If so, then perhaps you're un-American, too.

Just because half of us are stupid doesn't mean that the rest of us are. Just because an imperialist theocrat has weaseled his way into a second term doesn't mean that we should roll over and take it. Just because the media doesn't always notice or seem to care how wrong things are doesn't mean that we should stop pointing it out.

We are the rational, intelligent, well-informed Americans. We enjoy, as of today, anyway, many rights and freedoms that were paid for with the blood of our forefathers.

Let's not go down without a fight.

Let's not let Bush ruin our country without speaking up and drawing attention to how wrong he is and pointing out that we see through him and his anti-Constitution ways.

We cannot take this lying down.

When Bush keeps this senseless war going, protest.

When he takes away our right to choose what we do with our own bodies, join together and scream in the streets with one voice, "NO."

When he writes discrimination into the Constitution, hold rallies, write letters to your lawmakers, write letters to the paper, even run TV commercials, if you can scrape together the cash.

We must not let America go down without a fight. If we lose our country, all that America is, was and was intended to be, we must not lose it lying down.

I'd really rather be doing at least three other things right now besides writing.

I told myself that I should get to 10k by tomorrow, 'cause it just seemed like a good idea, seeing as I've had three days off.

It might not be happening.
