Good news, bad news
Aug. 4th, 2003 12:40 amOn the down side, when I went to the track today, I quickly noticed some sketchy looking bumps on my arm, even though I'd been there something like five minutes and I'd been slathering on sunblock every few minutes. I thought of going home, even though I'd been looking forward to the day for months, 'cause it was for my own good, my own health. I was waiting for Jess, though, who was supposed to call me when she got there. I waited inside for a while, and at five minutes before post time, I called her to see where she was, only to have her ditch me, again -- she ditched me twice for the same occasion. She was going, then two weeks ago, she wasn't, then she was all into it last week, then today, when I called her, she said she was sorta sunburnt and kinda tired, blah blah blah. It doesn't upset me so much that she ditched me (twice), especially since it was for my own good that I went home and I'd've felt bad ditching her at the track, but when was she gonna call me, 5 p.m.? There I was waiting for her, and she had no intention of showing. Grr. So I placed a bet on the feature, so at least it wouldn't be a total loss of the day, and I went home to lie around and elevate my now-blistered arm.
On the up side, though, after placing my first complex (not just win/place/show) bet ever on the Dandy, I actually nailed the exacta! Woo! The payout wasn't so great, just $27, but hey, that much on a $2 bet, that's pretty damned cool, the best payout I've ever gotten on one bet. Empire Maker only placed, too, which was cool. Then, Mom made fried squash and sweet corn with dinner -- mmm, tasty.
So hey, half-bad, half-good, I've got a $27 ticket sitting here, but I have to work tomorrow, but at least it's just a Monday, followed by a weekend.
