I got up on the wrong side of the bed today -- it was one of those mornings where I woke up expecting, maybe even hoping for, one thing and was met with another, and it made me unusually cranky. I don't know if it's hormones or what. I know part of it is the accumulated stress of changes at work, and part of it is because of my sister, who called this morning, all chipper, ready to go home. I just feel peeved at the world, in a way I seldom feel, really. I'm usually pretty easy-going, you all know that.

I got my taxes done today, finally, after much irritation with the state. I mean, first, they refuse to mail me the forms, so it takes me weeks to actually go hunt them down when the library's open to get them. Then, they don't even include an envelope, the lazy bastards. Then, I have to fill out the stupid form where you have to copy your whole W-2 onto their sheet, 'cause they like to make more work for us, I guess. And then, I get to the bottom, and it says Complete line 56, all bold-like, a clear command, but line 56 has two checkboxes: "Refund by direct deposit (complete below)" and "Pay amount owed electronically." No. No, no, NO. I don't WANT direct deposit. I don't WANT phantom money randomly magicking itself into my bank account without me knowing about it. NO, you stupid state bastards. Eventually, I found the tiny print in the instruction booklet that said "leave line 56 blank if you want your payment mailed by check." But it sure wasn't obvious from the form that that was an option.

Ah, well. At least the taxes are done, and I'm getting decent refunds, probably enough to set a little aside to treat myself on my birthday.
