The joy of shopping
Aug. 4th, 2004 09:47 pmI went on two shopping excursions today, both of them pretty awesome.
First, I went to the Farmers' Market. I've always been meaning to go, but I hadn't, and boy, was it dizzying -- you could actually eat for at least one full today using only things you bought there. They have veggies, sure, but they also had cakes and pies and cookies and pastries, kugel and bread, beefalo and chicken and eggs, cheese and garlic and wines and salad greens and salad dressings and jellies. I had a hard time restraining myself from buying everything. I ended up with some tomatoes, corn (yes, more), squash and cucumbers (for the parents -- I don't eat those). Lemme tell you, there's almost nothing better than a fresh, just-picked-this-morning, vine-ripened tomato. I don't usually eat raw tomato unless it's buried in a sandwich, but I was eating slices of these with just a little salt and practically melting, they were so good.
Then, tonight, I went clothes shopping, Lane Bryant coupons in hand. I spent forever wandering around and picking things up and trying things on, and I ended up with three pairs of pants (two identical black ones, one brown stripey) and two shirts (one plain white, one fun mulberry silky tank). And get this: The black pants were a size 18. 18! I haven't worn an 18 since I was like 13 -- I jumped directly to 20ish/22 and stayed there ever since, until now. I knew my jeans have been baggy (they're 22s, bought a bit big on purpose when I got them), but who'd guess that I'd ever see a size with a 1 in front of it again? I guess I really have lost some weight. On top of that, I noticed that the coupons weren't good until tomorrow, but they let me use them anyway. :)
And I don't even have to do laundry now, 'cause I have new, clean clothes to wear. Heh, yeah, I know, I'm lazy. :)
