The Friday Five
Sep. 13th, 2003 02:08 am1. Is the name you have now the same name that's on your birth certificate? If not, what's changed?
Yes, it's the same. I used to think that I'd change it as soon as I turned 18, 'cause I really don't like it, but now, I've gotten more comfortable with it -- after all, it's how everyone I know knows me, why change it? Unless I get married, of course.
2. If you could change your name (first, middle and/or last), what would it be?
That's half of the reason I dropped the idea of changing it -- I have no idea. Honestly, I'd be afraid to take that kind of responsibility. It's not like with picking out clothes or even buying a car or a house; it's your name, it's what identifies you, and you're stuck with it.
3. Why were you named what you were? (Is there a story behind it? Who specifically was responsible for naming you?)
I'm told that it just sounded pretty. I've always had the suspicion that I was named for a sitcom character, though, although the parents have always denied it.
4. Are there any names you really hate or love? What are they and why?
I really hate anything that's too off-the-wall, especially names that look nothing like how they're allegedly pronounced -- goddammit, "Siobhan" says "sai-O-bin," not "sha-VON." Stuff like that pisses me off. Also, stuff like Taylor, Morgan, the same overused crap, that annoys me, too.
Names I love? I used to like Chelsea, before it got overused. Sierra I liked, too, but same thing, now it's getting overdone.
5. Is the analysis of your name at kabalarians.com/triggur.org/astroexpert accurate? How or how isn't it?
Well, let's see. First, Kabalarians:
"Your name creates a passive, friendly, easy-going nature, but your desire for sociability and the pleasant things in life makes you too easily influenced through your associations. You are too generous and if appealed to will give all you have because you find it difficult to say "no" and mean it. [All of this used to be me, though it's not so fitting anymore.] You do not like to create tension or friction and will try various means to avoid such situations. You are very idealistic. You have imagination and many ideas but lack the ambition and drive necessary to accomplish your undertakings. [True] Many times you dream about the things you desire in life, but when it comes down to putting forth the necessary effort and accomplishing your goals, you do not have the strength and initiative. This name does not allow you the system and order your life requires to run in a smooth, efficient way, and if possible you will avoid having to make decisions because you feel much more secure when you can lean on others. Many times you make promises you do not keep, although your intentions are always good."
Some of the bad stuff's a little too harsh, but a lot of this does sound like me, or at least, it sounds like the me I started out as.
From Triggur:
"From the German root meaning "Failure" [Good to know]
Expression: is blunt and insensitive. [Nope]
Personality: should be monitored around small animals. [Nope]
Natural: likes animals-- perhaps too much. [Hell no]
Emotional: uses and abuses friendships. [Absolutely not]
Character: tends to get others down. [Nope]
Physical: has breath that could drop buffalo. [OK, this site's a joke, then, right?]
Mental: once killed a man for snoring too loud.
Motivation: hates dealing with the details."
Wow, what a load of crap, not a bit of it anywhere close to true.
The third site appears to be down now -- guess we'll never know.
